Dear Friends, I came upon this passage from Ajahn Sumedho.
"At this time, there are many pressures on people to take sides in various ways. Our minds easily look for a fixed position to hold on to. The position can be a political view, a religious view, a national view, or a personal view. It can be a view about class, race, or sex. People desperately take sides on the most ridiculous issues. We feel the need to adopt some particular position that we can use to feel a sense of purpose and meaning in life. …...... With mindfulness, we are not forced to take positions, take sides, get caught up in the quarrels and problems of our families, organizations, and societies. Rather, we are able to open the mind to each conflict. The mind is capable of embracing both sides; it can be sensitive to everything. It can be open, receptive, and clear with regard to the right and the left, the good and the bad."
For twenty-four years the Philadelphia Meditation Center has been offering a space to learn about and cultivate a mindful way of living. Before the pandemic we were able to offer regular meditation sittings, book discussion, retreats and a library toward this end. Although we are now limited to a Zoom session on Thursday, we now are open for in person meditation on Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening.
Maintaining a physical Center requires considerable expense and we are dependent upon public support to meet those expenses. We need your help. The Center exists dependent upon its supporters--we will exist only so long as many people find us valuable and decide to contribute their time, energy and money to keep us viable.
If you have benefited from our programs personally or simply feel that what we offer is valuable in these most uncertain times, we ask that you consider becoming a supporting member of the Philadelphia Meditation Center. A standard supporting membership is $240 annually (only $20 per month). Sustaining Members pledge to contribute an annual amount of $480 per year, or $40 per month. Members have free access to our large lending library and receive discounts at our retreats. If you do not wish to be a supporting member, donations of any amount are deeply appreciated. PMC is an IRC501[c]3 non-profit public charity and your contributions are tax deductible. We thank you for your support.
Sincerely, George Heckert, Director, The Philadelphia Meditation Center ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
